Dextrose Infusion - Precautions & How to Use

Before using this drug, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over the counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.). ·         Blood electrolyte monitoring is essential

·         Caution in patients with known subclinical or overt diabetes mellitus

·         Concentrated dextrose solutions should not be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly

·         Electrolyte deficits, particularly in serum potassium and phosphate may occur during prolonged use
